How to measure and hang your curtains

Even the most beautiful curtains won’t look their best if they’re the wrong size. A few simple rules will help you get it just right.

For width, your curtains should be between 1.5 and 2.5 times the width of the window for a full, draped effect. Curtains that are too narrow and stretched flat will look skimpy. For a 120 cm wide window, aim for a curtain that's 180–240 cm wide for generous fullness.

For height, it’s best to hang your curtain rod as high as possible—ideally 15 to 20 cm above the top of the window, or even up to the ceiling—so the curtain drops to the floor or just above. This simple trick creates the illusion of higher ceilings and a more spacious, open feel.
