Light your office well: 10 mistakes to avoid

To avoid visual fatigue and work with complete peace of mind, the ideal would be to ensure good lighting in your work space. Here are 10 common mistakes to avoid.

Have a single light source in your office. In fact, there should not be a single light point in the room. You absolutely must achieve a balance of light by installing general lighting in the room in addition to a desk lamp .

Have a single light located at the zenith in the room. In fact, there should not be a single light in the center of the room. This is especially not recommended if the luminaire is located above the desk, as the lighting could generate numerous shadow areas.

Have dazzling or excessively bright lighting. You should avoid installing an LED lamp that is too powerful in the room. Please note that no lamp should be located at an angle less than 30° from your field of vision.

Have a bad light bulb. Indeed, the bulb is an essential element in your workspace. As such, it must necessarily have a suitable IRC. Consider installing light bulbs called “daylight bulbs.” They provide perfect lighting for the eyes.

Having an inappropriate lamp. It is true that the designer lamp has some aesthetic qualities. However, focus more on your comfort. A lamp equipped with an articulated arm and a positionable diffuser is very beneficial for your eyes and your work. Your lamp must be absolutely functional.

Install a lamp without considering your work surface. Indeed, if your office has a coated covering, then the light and its source will be reflected there. This will hinder your work. You must therefore take these different factors into account.

Have an excess of contrast between office lighting and worktop lighting in particular. You should therefore not set lighting too high for your work surface. Consider balancing with a light current.

Have an insufficient illumination rate. In fact, your workstation must benefit from lighting of at least 250 lux. You can increase the intensity up to 500 lux depending on the precision required by the work tasks.

Install a computer without any lighting behind it. Indeed, if you work at the desk with your computer, then you must install a table lamp behind its screen.

Install lighting without taking into account the colors of the office. You must adapt the light in the room to the color of the surrounding walls. For example, black surfaces absorb light. Remember to prioritize general lighting in the room in order to maintain a pleasant light balance.
