Track lighting : faites le bon choix

Track lighting is the backbone of flexible lighting design, shaping your space with adjustable, versatile illumination.

Perfect for modern interiors, a track lighting system provides the most adaptable solution for creating structure and focus in any room. Consisting of an electric rail mounted to the ceiling or wall, it supports multiple spotlights and adjustable modules that can be positioned and moved as needed. This system suits living rooms, kitchens, hallways or offices, offering targeted, customisable and stylish light. Tracks come in standard lengths of 1 m, 1.5 m or 2 m, but can be joined to cover larger areas. Most models are compatible with LED spotlights from 5 to 15 W, delivering 400 to 1200 lumens per module, with a colour temperature from 2700 K (warm white) to 4000 K (neutral white). Track lighting lets you control the brightness room by room, while maintaining a clean, streamlined look.

Which track and spotlight system should you choose?

Single circuit tracks: Ideal for home use, a single circuit track allows you to control all lights on the rail with a single switch. It typically supports a total power of 1000 to 1500 W, which is ample for living rooms or kitchens. Tracks are offered in black, white or brushed aluminium finishes to suit every style.

Three circuit tracks: More technical, three circuit tracks are preferred for commercial or large spaces. They let you create up to three independent lighting zones on the same track, so you can light different areas separately. This system handles higher loads (up to 3500 W) and provides maximum flexibility for lighting design.

Adjustable spotlights: Spot modules for track systems are generally adjustable by 350° and tilt up to 90°, directing light exactly where needed — over worktops, art or reading corners. LED spotlights are recommended for their low energy use and long lifespan (over 30,000 hours). For best results, look for a colour rendering index (CRI) above 80.

For a more compact option or to supplement a track, fixed or recessed spotlights offer focused lighting, ideal in smaller spaces or for highlighting architectural features.

What power and placement for each room?

The right track lighting system depends on the space and its purpose. In a 20 to 30 m² living room, a 2 m track with 4 to 6 LED spotlights of 8 to 10 W each (totaling 3200 to 6000 lumens) will provide comfortable general lighting. For a kitchen, choose a colour temperature of 3500 to 4000 K for vibrant, task-friendly light, and install the track 60-80 cm above worktops to avoid shadows.

In hallways or entrances, a 1 m track with 2 or 3 spotlights is usually sufficient. For damp rooms like bathrooms, check the IP rating: an IP44 track light is required within 60 cm of water sources. For best results, space each spotlight 50 to 80 cm apart depending on their power and the desired effect.

For a more decorative touch, pair track lighting with designer ceiling lights or designer pendant lights to play with light sources and ambience.

How to integrate track lighting into your interior design?

Track lighting complements any style, from industrial minimalism to sleek modern. Matte black rails create a statement in graphic or urban décors, while white blends seamlessly into ceilings for a discreet effect. Brushed aluminium tracks are perfect for contemporary or Scandinavian spaces. For a warmer touch, combine track lighting with wood or metal light fittings for an industrial workshop feel.

Track lighting requires minimal maintenance: dust the rail and spotlights regularly with a dry cloth, and check modules are securely tightened to avoid loose connections. LEDs do not require frequent replacement, but choosing dimmable modules lets you adjust brightness to suit the time of day.

In living areas, complement your track lighting with designer floor lamps to create zones of indirect light and add structure without dividing up the space.
