How to choose and use your Spotlights recessed LEDs?

Find out how to choose and use your Spotlights recessed LED lights.

LEDs have become the preferred choice for indoor and outdoor lighting due to their low power consumption and high output. European legislation a decided in 2018 to keep this type of low-energy bulb only in the medium term by banning halogens and other low-performance bulbs.
LEDs come in a variety of forms and can be adapted to all types of lighting, including Spotlights. We explain how to choose your Spotlights recessed LEDs to combine design and luminosity. There are several categories of Spotlights , each with its own specific features.
There is a wide range of shapes (round, square, triangular), sizes and installation systems (recessed or not). Whatever their characteristics, these lights always give a resolutely modern look to your interior.

The Spotlights non-recessed LEDs

These protrude from the wall or ceiling to which they are attached. They can look like wall lamps or small round lamps that protrude only a few centimetres.
Originally, this type of mounting was reserved for halogen bulbs that give off a lot of heat and therefore cannot be enclosed in the ceiling.
Today, they are still available with LED bulbs. They are a little less aesthetic, but they are easier to work with and can be easily replaced. They are available individually or in sets of several attached to each other.

The categories of Spotlights recessed LEDs

LED technology with its low heat emission a allows the lamps to be recessed and the surfaces to be unified.
They provide harmonious light throughout the room and avoid the need for additional lamps to compensate for shadows.
They are also very discreet and adapt to all types of interior decoration.

The Spotlights

The Spotlights non-modulable lamps diffuse a global light, with an orientation towards the ground. The radius of diffusion will depend on the bulb used. The bulb may have reflective facets that increase the illuminated area. For a living room, it is more comfortable to use an angle of at least 60° to obtain a sufficient diffusion radius. In the case of a fixed Spotlight , it is easier to choose a large diameter since the aim is to illuminate a whole room. However, it is possible to install them in furniture to illuminate a deep, dark cupboard. In this case, a very low wattage and a small diameter are sufficient and offer great comfort of use.

The Spotlights orientable

These can be adjusted directly after installation or later if you change the decoration or organisation of the room. They can be directed towards an object to be highlighted, or a part of the room intended for more precise activities. To do this, they are mounted on a swivel axis. Each Spotlight can be adjusted manually by applying light pressure directly to the bulb. A beam angle of 30° is sufficient when the objective is to illuminate a particular object or piece of furniture. They allow greater flexibility over time. Indeed, the Spotlights recessed luminaires require relatively extensive work in the ceiling. Being able to adjust them, a few weeks or months later, makes the installation more durable. Choose your Spotlight according to the room to be lit.

Which Spotlights for a living room?

For this type of use, it is necessary to choose a Spotlight with a high to very high power level. Visual comfort depends on the brightness. Too little light will cause eye strain and prevent most daily activities. Depending on the decoration of the room, you can decide on a particular material or a specific shape. The round Spotlight is the most common, but a squareSpotlight will give your interior a bit of dynamism. The insulation of Spotlight is also a criterion. Although LEDs do not heat up very much, a housing offers extra protection in case of proximity to insulating materials above the false ceiling. Where the ceiling is very shallow, Spotlights can be perfectly integrated into the structure.

Which Spotlights for a living room?

This particularly humid room requires special equipment. Lamps installed in this room must have double protection against splashing water. To determine whether they are suitable, a protection rating is indicated on them. A minimum protection level of 4 out of 8 (IP X4 to IP X8) is required. In addition, the voltage delivered to the bulb must be 12V instead of the usual 220 volts. The installation of the lighting is not random either. A bathroom is divided into electrical hazard zones. Zones 1 and 2 correspond to the areas above the bathtubs and showers as well as those in their immediate vicinity. These two areas must not be used for any electrical installation below a height of 2.25 m. An adjustableSpotlight is therefore particularly suitable for this environment. It can be placed at a distance from the danger zones while pointing its light towards them. Low light levels are also not a problem in this room. When buying bulbs for these lights, be careful about the socket as they are specific models that are compatible: GU5.3. The Spotlights stainless steel bulbs blend in well with the decor of bathrooms and do not rust in the presence of water. You can now make an informed choice from all the products available for sale.
