Rope floor lamps : faites le bon choix

Bring nature indoors with our rope floor lamps, a bold yet elegant choice for interiors seeking an authentic touch.

Rope floor lamps are a true statement piece for contemporary, Scandinavian or boho interiors. Their design, with a metal or wood stem wrapped in natural rope or jute, creates visual impact while keeping a cosy feel. Models range from 120 to 180 cm tall and feature linen, cotton or rattan lampshades for soft, ambient lighting. These tall lamps define your space, create a focal point and provide ideal accent lighting for the living room, bedroom or reading corner. Braided or twisted rope gives rope floor lamps a unique texture—rustic yet refined—that complements both raw materials and minimalist décor.

Which type of rope floor lamp should you choose?

Tripod rope floor lamp: This stable, airy design is usually 140 to 170 cm tall. The legs, in light wood or black metal, are woven with rope—sometimes along their entire length, sometimes as a subtle accent. A cylindrical shade (30–45 cm diameter) provides even illumination, perfect for large spaces. For a natural feel, choose untreated jute rope in a warm beige tone, which is hardwearing and ages beautifully.

Adjustable arm rope floor lamp: Ideal for reading nooks or workspaces, this style features a moveable arm wrapped in rope so you can adjust the lamp height (from 120 to 160 cm). The E27 bulb socket often includes a dimmer, letting you set the light from 300 to 800 lumens as needed. This rope floor lamp fits seamlessly into a study or modern living room.

Rope floor lamp with fabric shade: Combining rope with a fabric shade (linen, cotton, sometimes hemp) softens the light for a warm ambience. The most stylish models include brass or wood finishes for a high-end look. A lampshade diameter of 35–50 cm is ideal for rooms from 15 to 25 sqm. For perfect harmony, pair this rope floor lamp with wooden floor lamps or natural fibre accessories.

What height and brightness should you choose for a rope floor lamp?

The brightness you need depends on how you use your rope floor lamp. For mood lighting in the living room, an LED bulb of 8–12 W (equivalent to a 60–100 W halogen) provides 700–1200 lumens, which is plenty. In a reading corner, opt for 12–15 W (up to 1500 lumens), favoring a warm white colour temperature between 2700 and 3000 K for a restful glow. The ideal height is usually 150–170 cm for general use; for bedrooms or compact spaces, 120–140 cm works best.

In dining rooms, place your rope floor lamp about 60 cm from a chair or sofa to avoid glare. For open-plan spaces, choose a large shade (at least 40 cm diameter) to light a broader area. To create visual flow across your lighting scheme, pair your rope floor lamp with rope pendant lights for a cohesive design.

For humid rooms like bathrooms, check the protection rating: most rope floor lamps are not moisture resistant (IP20), though some models are available up to IP44. In such cases, install at least one metre from any water source.

How do you care for and style a rope floor lamp?

Rope floor lamps are easy to care for with a little care. Dust the rope regularly using a soft brush or dry cloth. For marks, use a dry cleaning pad or a bit of bicarbonate of soda—never wet the rope, to prevent stretching or mould. If your lamp has a textile shade, gently vacuum it or use a lint roller.

Rope floor lamps look beautiful alongside natural materials such as wood, linen or rattan. For a harmonious look, pair them with wooden lighting or accessories in natural fibres. In an industrial setting, the rope contrasts stylishly with black metal or brushed steel. To enhance a cosy atmosphere, combine several sources of indirect light, for example with rope wall lights or matching pendant lights.

A rope floor lamp works in living rooms, bedrooms, offices and hallways alike. Its versatility makes it a practical choice for zoning spaces, creating light islands and adding a handcrafted touch to your décor. For a coordinated style, explore our rope lighting collection—from ceiling lights to pendants and wall lights.
