Paper weight typically ranges from 80 to 180 g/m², directly affecting translucency and durability. The understated form and warm, filtered glow make paper lampshades a natural fit for modern, Japanese or Scandinavian-inspired interiors.

What types of paper are used for lampshades?

Washi paper: This Japanese paper, made from mulberry fibres, is known for its strength and translucency. A washi paper lampshade creates particularly gentle light with subtle shadows and is suitable for bulbs up to 40 W (LED or low-energy bulbs recommended to avoid overheating). Washi works well in round or pleated designs, from 30 to 50 cm diameter, for pendants or ceiling lights.
