Plug in wall lights : faites le bon choix

A visible cable turns a wall light into a bold, technical and decorative choice.

Plug in wall lights are ideal for anyone seeking flexible installation and statement style. These wall-mounted lights, fitted with an exposed cable, can be installed without chasing the wall or needing direct wiring—simply plug them in nearby. Designs range from minimalist industrial to retro elegance, with compact versions (10 to 20 cm wide) for bedside lighting and swing-arm models (40 to 80 cm) perfect for reading corners. The cable—often fabric or PVC clad—becomes a graphic design feature, sometimes colourful or twisted to boost the style.

Which plug in wall lights should you choose?

Adjustable wall lights: Ideal for a desk area or bedside, an adjustable plug in wall light offers a rotation of 180° to 360°, depending on the model. Arms typically measure between 30 and 70 cm. Choose a 4 to 8 W LED (400 to 800 lumens) for focused lighting without glare. The visible cable, often black or fabric, creates striking contrast with the wall.

Globe wall lights: For soft, diffused light, a plug in globe wall light (12 to 25 cm diameter) fits perfectly in bedrooms or living rooms. The opal or clear glass globe provides even light, best paired with a 6 to 10 W LED bulb (600 to 1000 lumens). The cable, sometimes coloured, can hang free or be fixed to the wall for a graphic line effect.

Industrial wall lights: Workshop-inspired models with E27 sockets and black or red fabric cables suit raw, unfinished interiors. Matte or patina metal and a deliberately exposed wire create a true factory look. For a loft atmosphere, use a 6 to 12 W LED filament bulb (colour temperature 2200 to 2700 K).

To explore more styles, the industrial wall lights collection features plug in and adjustable arm designs, ideal for urban interiors.

What height should plug in wall lights be installed?

Mounting height depends on the room and use. For bedside lighting, 120 to 140 cm from the floor works best, with the cable trailing down to the socket. For a reading spot or desk, 150 to 160 cm from the floor ensures the light beam is neither too high nor low. In a hallway, 170 cm provides illumination without obstructing movement. The cable can be left loose or neatly guided with wall clips.

For bedroom setups, the bedroom wall lights collection offers inspiring plug in models made for reading or creating soft ambience.

Match bulb brightness to the space: 400 to 600 lumens for bedrooms, 800 to 1200 lumens for living areas or hallways. Opt for a colour temperature of 2700 to 3000 K for a cosy, warm feel, or 4000 K for a more neutral effect.

How to style plug in wall lights at home

The cable makes all the difference: a black or twisted fabric cord suits industrial looks, while white or coloured cables blend with Scandi or contemporary interiors. Some plug in models include an integrated switch, perfect for bedside or reading corners. For a consistent look, pair your plug in wall light with matching table lamps or mix complementary materials (metal, glass, wood).

In a dining or living room, a plug in wall light can supplement main lighting. For cohesive style, combine with designer ceiling lights or designer pendant lights in the same range.

Maintenance is easy: dust the cable and fixture regularly with a dry cloth. Use specific metal cleaners for metal finishes to prevent oxidation. Check that the wire is not pinched or bent, especially if fixed to the wall with clips.

Finally, if you prefer a wireless look, the wireless wall lights collection offers battery-powered or concealed-fixing options for an ultra-minimal effect.
