Suspended wall lights : faites le bon choix

A suspended wall light structures your space like a line of light, both graphic and practical.

This versatile wall light offers targeted illumination—perfect for brightening a hallway, highlighting a headboard or adding a contemporary accent to your living room. Its unique look: a single wall mount, exposed cable or rod, and a shade that drops to the desired height. Halfway between a pendant and a classic wall light, it lets you play with vertical lines and direct light exactly where you need it. Choose from minimalist reading lights with adjustable arms (20–60 cm projection, 30–120 cm drop) or stylish designs with fabric shades or hand-blown glass globes. Available with integrated LED technology (3–12 W, 300–1200 lumens, 2700–4000 K) or with standard E27/E14 bulbs, these lights adapt perfectly to the atmosphere you want to create.

Which materials and styles for a suspended wall light?

Metal suspended wall lights: Steel or brass create slim, sturdy designs. Matte black, brushed gold or chrome finishes suit both modern and industrial interiors. A 40–80 cm metal arm lets you position light over a desk or reading corner. For a matching look, explore our metal wall lights collection.

Wood suspended wall lights: Solid wood or plywood paired with a textile cable brings warmth—ideal for Scandinavian or nature-inspired spaces. Oak or walnut styles with a 50–100 cm drop work especially well in minimalist bedrooms and living rooms. Care is simple: dust regularly with a soft cloth.

Glass suspended wall lights: Opal or clear glass shades gently diffuse light for a relaxing feel. A 15–25 cm diameter globe suspended 60 cm from the wall makes a chic focal point. Some styles feature smoked or coloured glass for extra flair. Discover more inspiration in our glass wall lights selection.

Fabric suspended wall lights: A fabric shade, cylindrical or conical, softens the light—ideal for creating a cosy mood. Look for dust-resistant materials for easy upkeep. Linen or cotton designs (20–40 cm tall) fit perfectly in bedrooms or relaxed living spaces. For more ideas, see our range of fabric wall lights.

What height should you install a suspended wall light?

Installation height depends on its purpose. For general light in a hallway, fix at 180 cm from the floor, with a 40–60 cm drop to prevent glare. For bedside use, aim for 110–130 cm from floor level—just above shoulder height when seated. In a reading corner or above a desk, use an adjustable drop to place the light about 50 cm above the work surface. An articulated arm gives you even more flexibility—typically with a reach of 30–70 cm as needed.

Match light output to your space: 300–500 lumens for ambient lighting, 700–1000 lumens for reading or tasks. Integrated LED versions give uniform light without heat build-up—5–10 W is plenty for most uses. For a warm feel, choose 2700–3000 K; for a fresher look, 3500–4000 K is ideal for busy or work areas.

In bathrooms, ensure your light has at least IP44 if it’s within 60 cm of a water source. For more technical fittings, see our LED wall lights collection.

How to coordinate a suspended wall light with your decor?

Suspended wall lights combine easily with other fittings in similar materials or finishes. Pair with a designer floor lamp to add structure to your living area, or with matching pendants in the entrance hall. For a striking effect, group several suspended wall lights on one wall at staggered heights (differing each by 20–40 cm). In bedrooms, opt for matte or natural finishes to reduce glare. Always match materials: black metal with black metal, light wood with pale wood, and opal glass with lacquered or satin finishes.

Caring for your suspended wall light depends on the material: a microfibre cloth is perfect for metal and glass, while fabric may need gentle dusting. Always check the wall fixing, especially on styles with a long arm or exposed cable, to keep everything secure and stable.
