Tube floor lamps : faites le bon choix

A tube floor lamp provides clean lines that enhance your space without making it feel heavy.

The tube floor lamp stands out as a vertical, graphic and minimalist lighting solution, perfect for highlighting contemporary architecture or creating rhythm in pared-back interiors. Its slender silhouette, usually between 120 and 180 cm tall, offers ambient or accent lighting without taking up unnecessary floor space. This type of lamp is defined by its cylindrical shape, sometimes very slim (4 to 8 cm in diameter), sometimes more generous (up to 15 cm), and by its ability to spread light evenly along its full height. Tube floor lamps fit perfectly in a designer living room, an office, a hallway or a bedroom, where they create a subtle but architectural column of light.

Which materials and finishes for a tube floor lamp?

Metal: A tube floor lamp in metal (steel, aluminium, brass) offers excellent durability with a modern finish. Anodised or matt black aluminium models are favoured for their graphic look and light weight (often under 5 kg). Brushed brass tubes bring a more refined touch, ideal for chic or art deco interiors. Stainless steel versions suit damp rooms, with an IP44 rating suitable for bathrooms.

Glass: Some tube floor lamps include an opal or frosted glass diffuser, which softens the light and avoids glare. Glass gives 360° diffusion, perfect for a cocooning atmosphere. Glass tubes typically measure 8 to 12 cm in diameter and stand 140 to 160 cm high.

Wood: Less common, tube floor lamps in wood (solid oak, ash or bamboo) offer warmth and a natural feel. They complement Scandinavian or Zen-inspired décor perfectly. Wood is often paired with a metal base for stability. To see more options in this style, explore the wooden floor lamps collection.

Integrated LED: Most modern tube floor lamps feature integrated LED technology for low power consumption (10 to 30 W, depending on tube length) and a lifespan over 25,000 hours. Some models are dimmable, offering adjustable output from 500 to 2500 lumens for the perfect lighting mood. For even more efficient and modern lighting, see the LED floor lamps range.

What power and colour temperature for a tube floor lamp?

Choose your lamp's brightness based on the room and use. For a living room, you’ll want between 1200 and 2000 lumens from a 15 to 25 W LED. For bedrooms and hallways, 800 to 1200 lumens (10 to 15 W) is enough. Colour temperature is also key: opt for 2700 to 3000 K for a cosy, warm light, or 4000 K for a neutral effect — great in offices and entrances. Some lamps offer colour temperature adjustment, letting you switch from a soft feel to functional lighting.

Tube floor lamps are freestanding, so installation height isn’t an issue. Still, choose a size that suits your room: 120 to 140 cm for a reading corner, 160 to 180 cm for larger spaces or by a sofa. Very short lamps can get lost, while an extra-tall lamp (over 180 cm) may overwhelm smaller rooms.

For a striking effect, group several tube floor lamps of varying heights, or combine them with designer floor lamps to play with lines and shapes.

How to integrate a tube floor lamp into your decor?

The tube floor lamp pairs well with many styles, from contemporary minimalism to industrial. In a modern setting, choose a matt black or chrome model and mix with black floor lamps for a sophisticated monochrome look. In a Scandinavian vibe, go for light wood or white finishes, matched with soft textures and natural materials.

For living rooms, position your tube floor lamp about 50 cm from a wall for indirect lighting that highlights volumes. In studies, let it serve as a reading light by a library or armchair. Some models tilt or swivel, so you can direct light exactly where you need it.

Maintaining a tube floor lamp is simple: regular dusting with a microfibre cloth does the job. For glass models, use suitable cleaner to avoid marks. Integrated LED lamps need no bulb changes, reducing maintenance.

Finally, for a harmonious look in your room, coordinate your tube floor lamp with other tubular lighting from the tube lighting collection for a consistent visual and lighting flow throughout your home.
