Square spotlights : faites le bon choix

A square spotlight delivers geometric precision with perfect lighting control.

Square spotlights offer a technical yet stylish lighting solution, ideal for structuring spaces with a sense of order. Their angular design, typically 8 to 12 cm across, can blend discreetly into a ceiling or make a bold statement depending on the chosen finish. Whether recessed or surface mounted, adjustable or fixed, square spotlights are versatile: highlight a hallway, illuminate a worktop, add visual rhythm to a living room or bathroom ceiling. The square shape ensures even light distribution, with no shadowy patches, and works equally well in contemporary interiors or more classic spaces. Many models feature integrated LED technology for low energy consumption (3 to 12 W per spotlight), delivering 300 to 900 lumens and colour temperatures from 2700K (warm white) to 4000K (neutral white).

What materials and finishes are available for square spotlights?

Aluminium square spotlights: Brushed or anodised aluminium gives a modern look and excellent heat dissipation. A 9x9 cm square aluminium spotlight, 3 cm deep, weighs around 250g and supports GU10 bulbs or integrated LED modules. Heat resistant and easy to clean with a soft cloth.

Steel square spotlights: Heavier (up to 400g for a 10x10 cm fitting), they offer greater durability, often with a chrome or matt finish. Perfect for kitchens or bathrooms, they can support high protection ratings (IP44 to IP65).

Plaster square spotlights: These can be painted, blending seamlessly into a white or coloured ceiling. This type is usually recessed, measuring 10 to 12 cm across, for flawless architectural integration.

For a decorative touch, some models combine frosted glass and metal to create a soft halo effect. Finishes in black, white or gold let you coordinate your lighting with your decor. For other shapes, explore the designer spotlights collection for more original alternatives.

What output and layout for square spotlights in each room?

Choose your output according to the area and purpose. For a 20 m² living room, use 4 to 6 square LED spotlights (8 W each, approx. 600 lumens), spaced 1.5 to 2 m apart for even light. In the kitchen, go for adjustable square spotlights (10 W) above worktops, 60–80 cm from the surface to avoid shadows. In the bathroom, an IP65 square spotlight is recommended above the shower or bath, with a colour temperature of 4000K for a natural effect.

Installation height varies: for a standard suspended ceiling (2.5 m), a recessed square spotlight with 7 to 9 cm depth is enough. On a concrete ceiling, use surface-mounted models, 4 to 6 cm high. In hallways, space square spotlights 1.2 to 1.5 m apart for effective guidance without a tunnel effect.

For specialist needs, the recessed LED spotlights collection features models designed for suspended ceilings and seamless installations.

Installation and maintenance tips for square spotlights

Recessed fitting requires a precise cut-out: 68-75 mm diameter for a standard model, minimum depth 7 cm. Check compatibility with bulbs (GU10, MR16, integrated LED) and protection rating for wet areas. For bathroom installations, select a minimum IP44 rating, or IP65 in wet zones.

Maintenance is easy: dust regularly with a microfibre cloth. For glass models, use a gentle cleaner to avoid marks. Integrated LED square spotlights don't need bulb changes, but check heat dissipation to maximise lifespan (up to 30,000 hours).

For cohesive decor, pair square spotlights with a square ceiling light in larger spaces or combine with ceiling spotlights to multiply light sources without cluttering the design.
