Sizes range from large six-arm chandeliers of 80 cm diameter, perfect for grand tables, to compact 40 cm versions suited for cosier rooms. The typical hanging height, usually between 60 and 120 cm below the ceiling, lets you adjust its visual impact to suit both ceiling height and room layout. More than just a decorative piece, a rustic chandelier provides powerful central lighting, often compatible with E27 LED bulbs from 6 to 12 W—delivering 600 to 1500 lumens per bulb for a warm, inviting glow.

What materials make an authentic rustic chandelier?

Solid wood: Oak, pine, or walnut are staples of rustic chandeliers. A 70 cm solid wood design often weighs 4 to 8 kg, ensuring stability. Brushed or whitewashed finishes pair beautifully with country or chalet interiors. For a flawless look, coordinate with wooden chandeliers in other rooms.

Wrought iron: Matt black or bronze-patinated wrought iron creates a rustic chandelier with a more industrial or castle-inspired style. Twisted arms, subtle droplets, and sturdy chains can support up to 10 kg, and the material’s moisture resistance suits hallways or well-ventilated conservatories.

What size and output for each room?

The right rustic chandelier depends on your room’s size and ceiling height. For dining rooms of 20–30 m², choose a chandelier 70–100 cm wide, fitted with 6–8 LED bulbs of 8 W each (800 lumens), totalling 4800 to 6400 lumens. Hang it 75–85 cm above the table to avoid glare and ensure even light.

In a living room of 15–25 m², a rustic chandelier 60–80 cm across with 5–6 light sources of 6–10 W is enough for a warm, friendly feel. For low ceilings (under 2.5 m), opt for a semi-flush or short-chain design, leaving at least 2 m head clearance.
