For lovers of stylish outdoor evenings, the garden lamp enhances any terrace or balcony. This outdoor light creates a warm and sophisticated atmosphere, perfect for unwinding after dark or welcoming guests in an inviting, beautifully illuminated setting.

Garden lights : faites le bon choix

When night falls, garden lights become essential for highlighting every feature of your outdoor space.

Garden lighting is much more than a simple accessory: it defines zones, makes paths safer, and brings out the beauty of your plants. Styles include discreet recessed spotlights, decorative lanterns, bollard lights, and standalone solar lamps. Staked, freestanding or hanging models let you tailor the lighting layout for gardens, patios or balconies of any shape. Garden lights help extend evenings, guide footsteps and showcase garden features, while meeting technical demands such as weather resistance, reliable autonomy and the right brightness for each use.

Which garden light to choose for your needs?

Recessed spotlight: The ideal choice for marking out a path or accenting a flower bed. Outdoor recessed spotlights should offer a minimum protection rating of IP67 to withstand rain and temporary immersion. Use 3 to 7W LED output (300 to 700 lumens) for ambient lighting and up to 12W for lighting paths safely. For an even effect, space each spotlight 1.5 to 2 metres apart.

Outdoor lantern: Freestanding or hanging, a garden lantern gives a soft, decorative glow. Solar lanterns often feature a 1200 to 2000 mAh battery, giving 6 to 10 hours of light from 1 to 3W. Wired versions can reach up to 800 lumens—ideal for illuminating a dinner table or entrance.

Garden bollard light: To frame a patio or path, bollard lights come in heights from 40 to 100 cm. 400 to 900 lumens (5 to 10W LED) are enough to guide without glare. Aim for a colour temperature of 3000 to 4000K for a natural look that’s neither too cold nor too yellow.

For a decorative touch, the outdoor lantern lets you mix classic or contemporary styles and provides elegant accent lighting.

What brightness and colour temperature for a garden light?

The right brightness depends on the area and purpose. For cosy lighting around garden seating, 200 to 400 lumens is enough. To light up an entrance or outdoor stairs securely, aim for 600 to 1000 lumens per fitting. Most solar designs offer a softer output (1 to 3W), perfect for gentle pathway lighting.

Your choice of colour temperature sets the mood: 2700 to 3000K creates a warm, inviting light, while 4000K gives a more neutral effect—great for walkways. LED garden lights often let you select or vary the colour to suit your mood.

For long-lasting performance, check the protection rating: minimum IP44 under cover, IP65 or higher for exposed locations. Durable finishes such as powder-coated aluminium, stainless steel or polycarbonate offer excellent weather resistance.

For extra accent lighting, garden spotlights are ideal for illuminating trees, sculptures or buildings, with 5 to 15W options depending on the height of the focal point.

How to integrate garden lighting into your outdoor design?

The layout of garden lights should balance practical requirements and style. To light a pathway, position lights 1.5 to 2 metres apart. For a 15 to 20 m² patio, plan for 2 to 3 garden lights at 400 to 600 lumens each. Motion sensor models (range of 6 to 12 metres, angle of 120 to 180°) are recommended for walkways or near garages.

For a warm outdoor feel, combine a table lamp, a few bollard lights to define spaces, and some hanging lanterns in the trees. Rechargeable or solar lights are perfect for areas without a mains supply, offering 6 to 12 hours’ running time depending on battery capacity and sunlight.

For general lighting, the outdoor lighting collection provides extra options such as outdoor wall lights, pendant lights or ceiling fittings that can be teamed with garden lights for a seamless and practical design.

Cleaning your garden light depends on the material: simply wipe powder-coated aluminium or polycarbonate with a damp cloth, while stainless steel may need more frequent cleaning to avoid water marks. Each year, check the weatherproof seals and the state of the wiring, especially for mains-powered models.

For an eco-friendly, standalone solution, the solar garden lamp is ideal: built-in solar panel, lithium battery and automatic dusk sensor, with no wiring required.

Finally, for defining larger zones or a strong central feature, the garden floor lamp stands 120 to 220 cm tall, delivers 10 to 20W LED (up to 2000 lumens) and spreads its light wide—perfect for larger patios or outdoor dining spaces.
