Garden lights

What makes a garden light truly unique is its ability to transform any outdoor space into a welcoming retreat as soon as night falls. Wall lights, pendant fittings, and bollard lights enhance patios and pathways, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere so you can make the most of your evenings outdoors.

Garden lights : faites le bon choix

As night falls, your garden transforms into a space ready to be revealed by just the right lighting.

Garden lights shape your outdoor space, guide your steps, keep entrances safe and highlight plants and landscaping. You’ll find a wide range of options: ground lights, wall lights, spotlights, lanterns, pendant lights and floodlights. Every garden light serves a clear purpose, from subtle path markers to powerful lights for patios or driveways. Materials such as aluminium, stainless steel or polycarbonate are chosen for durability, weather resistance and UV protection. The IP rating is key: for garden lighting, look for at least IP44 to withstand splashing water, or IP65 if exposed directly to rain. Power ranges from 3 to 20W in LED, depending on the effect you want and the area you need to illuminate. Choose a warm 2700K light for a cosy atmosphere, or 4000K for a more neutral look. Compact fittings (10–20 cm) mark paths, while taller options (40–80 cm) define beds or entrances.

What types of garden lights work best for different needs?

Recessed ground spotlights are ideal for lighting a path or highlighting outdoor steps. Look for a diameter of 6 to 10 cm, 3–7W LED output, and 200 to 500 lumens. For a continuous effect without dark spots, install each spotlight 1 to 1.5 metres apart. For full integration with the landscape, choose an IP67 model suitable for temporary immersion.

Garden spotlights with adjustable heads let you highlight trees, sculptures or walls. A 3000K colour temperature gives plants a natural look. Spike spotlights offer flexible placement with outputs from 5 to 15W, depending on the feature you want to showcase.

Outdoor wall lights are perfect for keeping entrances and patios safe. The recommended mounting height is 1.6 to 1.8 metres from the ground. Aim for a wide beam (90–120°) to cover 6–12 m². Choose models with motion detectors to save energy and increase security. Powder-coated aluminium or brushed stainless steel provides excellent durability.

Outdoor lanterns offer a decorative, timeless touch—perfect for classic gardens or warm, welcoming patios. The ideal height is 40–60 cm for a path light and up to 1.8 m for a floor lamp. Clear glass gives an even light, while frosted glass creates a softer mood.

Outdoor pendant lights work well under a pergola or awning. Choose a diameter of 25 to 40 cm for tables seating 4–8 people. Hang 70–90 cm above the table to avoid glare. Treated metal or polycarbonate pendants withstand temperature changes and humidity.

What power and colour temperature do you need for garden lighting?

For pathways, 2–5W LED per fixture (around 150–400 lumens) is enough. For a 15–20 m² patio, plan for a total of 1000 to 2000 lumens spread across several garden lights. To highlight a tree or facade, use floodlights with 10–20W LED (800–1800 lumens) and a narrow beam (15–30°) for focused light. Colour temperature sets the mood: 2700K for a golden glow, 4000K for crisp white, or 6000K for a cool, modern effect. Integrated LED garden lights last 25,000–50,000 hours, cutting down on maintenance.

For walkways and entrances, choose models with dusk or motion sensors so they come on only when needed. This improves safety and saves energy. Solar-powered garden lights are ideal where mains power isn’t available, but battery life depends on sunlight and battery capacity (usually 600 to 2000 mAh).

For a unified look, pair outdoor floor lamps with wall lights or bollards from the same collection, making sure the finish (matt black, stainless steel, anthracite) and shapes (cylinder, cube, lantern) are coordinated.

How do you install and maintain garden lights?

Install your garden lighting on a firm base, shielded from direct contact with soil or gravel to prevent dirt build-up. Electrical connections should use waterproof IP68 boxes, especially for ground spotlights or low bollards. Wipe down glass or polycarbonate diffusers twice a year with a soft cloth and warm water—never abrasive cleaners—to keep the light clear. Regularly check seals and fixings, especially after winter.

For contemporary gardens, black or anthracite aluminium outdoor lights look great with timber or concrete patios. Brushed stainless steel is ideal for coastal areas, offering better resistance to salty air.

Finally, for an eco-friendly touch, choose solar garden lights with energy-saving LEDs and monocrystalline panels, offering up to 20% efficiency and 6–10 hours of light depending on the season.
