Globe lights

Instantly recognisable, this style of lighting captivates with its clean lines and timeless elegance. The globe light emits a gentle, diffuse glow, making it perfect for enhancing a living room or bedroom. Ideal for creating a warm, inviting atmosphere, whether as a pendant or a table lamp.

Globe lights : faites le bon choix

A globe light features pure geometry, shaping the space without weighing it down.

Globe lights are a natural choice for contemporary, Scandinavian or reimagined classic interiors. Their spherical shape diffuses light evenly, with no harsh shadows, making them a favourite for living rooms, bedrooms and hallways. You’ll find globe lights as ceiling lights, pendant lights, wall lights or floor lamps, in diameters from 15 to 60 cm, with large XXL models also available. Globe lights come in opal glass, lacquered metal, stretched fabric or polycarbonate, each material influencing the quality and ambiance of the lighting. With compact formats and modular designs, they suit both low ceilings and larger, lofty spaces.

What materials are best for globe lights?

Opal glass: Opal glass is the benchmark for a globe light that diffuses soft, glare-free light. A 30 cm hand-blown glass globe gives optimal lighting for a 10 to 15 m² room using an LED bulb of 800 to 1200 lumens. Frosted glass hides the bulb and prevents halos. For added sophistication, some designs pair glass with brass or chrome.

Lacquered metal: Globe lights in lacquered metal—often finished in black, white or gold—bring bold, graphic style to modern or industrial spaces. Metal also enables openwork designs that play with light and shadow. A 20 cm metal globe with a 6 to 10 W LED bulb is perfect for a reading nook or hallway.

Stretched fabric: Less common, globe lights in stretched fabric over metal frame create a gentle, diffused glow—ideal for bedrooms or cosy living rooms. White or natural fabric emits a warm light (2700 to 3000 K), helping establish a relaxing mood. Just remember that fabric needs regular dusting.

For design lovers, coloured glass or crystal globe lights add extra sparkle and suit sophisticated interiors. Lightweight polycarbonate options are great for delicate ceilings or children’s rooms.

If you prefer an alternative to glass, the Glass ceiling lights collection offers spherical models in a range of finishes, from clear to smoked glass.

What size and brightness should you choose for a globe light?

The ideal globe light diameter depends on your room size and ceiling height. For spaces around 10 m², a globe of 25 to 30 cm works well. For rooms over 20 m², look for globes of 40 to 50 cm, or consider a cluster of several pendants at varied heights. As a ceiling light, keep total height under 30 to 40 cm in corridors or hallways to avoid bumps. For pendants, allow at least 210 cm between the floor and the base of the globe in a walkway, or 75 to 90 cm above a table.

For everyday use, an LED bulb of 10 to 15 W (about 75 to 100 W halogen equivalent) is usually enough. For mood lighting, choose 5-7 W. Favour a colour temperature of 2700 to 3000 K for warm atmospheres, or 4000 K for a cooler, more neutral light in kitchens or studies.

For large living spaces, globe pendant lights create visual impact, especially in linear or cluster arrangements.

Where can you install a globe light and how do you match it?

Globe lights suit any room, as long as you tailor the size and material. Use one as a central ceiling light or pendant above a coffee table in the living room. For dining rooms, a globe pendant of 40 to 50 cm diameter hung 80 cm above the table works well. In bedrooms, a small frosted glass globe (20 to 25 cm), used as a bedside table lamp or ceiling light, gives gentle, restful lighting.

Compact globe ceiling or wall lights (15 to 25 cm) are ideal for halls and corridors, brightening the space without clutter. In bathrooms, check the safety rating: models of at least IP44 are needed within 60 cm of a water source.

For a coordinated look, pair a globe light with a globe floor lamp in the living room, or with spherical wall lights in the hallway. Brass, chrome or matt black accents allow you to echo other decor details in the room.

If you want to explore other sculptural styles, the designer chandeliers collection features airy arrangements mixing spheres with graphic lines.

For minimalist rooms, contemporary ceiling lights in globe shapes enhance pared-back interiors with simple forms and beautiful illumination.

The right globe light will define your space, shape your lighting and complement all styles, from classic to modern.
