Which bedroom lamp to choose for your needs?

Bedside lamps: Ideal for reading, they should sit 40-60 cm high on your nightstand. Choose 5 to 7 W LED (400 to 600 lumens) to avoid glare. Dimmable models let you adjust brightness throughout the day, and a colour temperature between 2700 and 3000 K encourages relaxation. Table lamps: These are more decorative, placed on a chest of drawers or console table. Heights range from 30 to 60 cm, with shade diameters between 15 and 35 cm. For a 12–15 m² bedroom, an 8 to 10 W LED lamp (700 to 900 lumens) will create warmly diffused ambience. Finishes in brass, ceramic or wood suit both classic and modern styles. For a sculptural effect, opt for a designer table lamp as a visual focal point.

Wall lights for reading: Perfect for keen readers, these fit 90-110 cm from the floor, within easy reach of the bed. Look for an adjustable head and 3 to 5 W LED (250 to 400 lumens) for targeted lighting. Flexible arms and gooseneck styles offer extra convenience. For a discreet look, choose a bedroom wall light to match your headboard.

What power and colour temperature for a bedroom lamp?

Power should match the lamp’s function. For gentle ambience, 5 to 7 W LED is sufficient (400 to 600 lumens). For reading, look for 7 to 10 W LED (600 to 800 lumens) in a directed beam. Aim for a colour temperature between 2700 and 3000 K for a warm, cosy feel. In children’s rooms, opt for low-intensity, soft light and a colour rendering index (CRI) over 80 to preserve colour quality. In master bedrooms, dimmable lamps allow you to adjust brightness: low for relaxing, higher for reading or getting dressed.
